Palm Springs Pride Season: Parade, Parties and Giving

My apologies for the long delay since my last post.  The 2014 Desert AIDS Walk and Palm Springs Equality Awards kept me a bit busy.  That said, Desert AIDS Walkthank you to all who supported both events making it possible for the Desert AIDS Walk to break all records raising more than $325,000 and for Equality California to expand its base as we honored local heroes.

Now….Pride is upon us in Palm Springs and the town is abuzz!  The festival is moving downtown.  The parade route has changed (check out Gay Desert Guide' Events section before finding your favorite patch of curb from which to watch).  For locals, it is also a week of many events supporting local LGBT and HIV/AIDS organizations.  What better way to celebrate our Pride and to feel proud than to support great work building a strong community? There are really inexpensive options and more pricey events. There is formal and there’s very low-key.  Find one that fits you and your budget and give out proud!

Here are just a few I plan on attending, in date order.  Hope to see you at a couple of them!

Center Stage Posterhttp://thecenterps.orgThe LGBT Community Center's Annual Center Stage event is bigger and better than ever! This year it is headlined by out comedienne extraordinaire, Kate Clinton, and the absolutely jaw- droppingly (yes, I’m coining a word) sexy and talented Well Strung!  This year the event has moved to The Riviera with reception/silent auction at 5:30pm and show at 7pm.  And for those of you who have attended before, there’s no need to bring a sandwich in your pocket this year! You’ll be served a full dinner while you serve up support for the Center’s vital community programs.  Tickets start at $175.  For more information or tickets visit: .

Saturday, November 8th, 2014 – Wear comfy shoes if you’re going to be at all of these events on Saturday!

The 2014 Palm Springs Garden Party is from 2pm – 5pm.  One of the HRC Garden Partycommunity’s favorite events of the year is being held at the 1956 Palm Springs estate of actor William Holden and benefits the Human Rights Campaign.  The event draws several hundred of the area’s movers and shakers for a three hour cocktail party and silent auction – not to mention some wonderful entertainment by our very own, beloved Shann Carr, The Victoria McGinnis Trio and DJ Abe Alvaraz Tostado.  Tickets start at just $75.00 for this three hour open bar and garden party.  As a co-host of this event, I hope to see you there in your favorite Palm Springs chic garden party outfit. Surely there will be no shortage of Trina Turk stylings.

After the party, head on over to Wang’s in the Desert for the annual Fill The Pantry Food Drive for Desert AIDS Project organized each year by Kandy Lee and Friends from 3pm to 8pm.  Stop by and bring some non-perishable food items, grocery store gift cards or cash.  After you donate your items and get a big hug from Kandy, go on inside for Wang’s famous $2.00 happy hour and complimentary passed hors d’oevres.  This drive fills the pantry at D.A.P. for nearly 2 months and the food is provided to those in the desert living with HIV at or below the federal poverty level.

Fill The Pantry

Tired yet?  Don’t stop yet. Grab a redbull and keep going.

From 6pm – 9pm visit the fabulous home of equally fabulous men – Kenny Jervis and Michael Crisp for the Booze N Nutz party.  All are welcome for a cash donation of $20.00 at the door that will benefit both Ties Us All Together and Desert AIDS Project.  More than 500 people come and go at this very casual, very fun event that is also happy to provide open bar…..I’m sensing a trend for Saturday and many potential hangovers on Sunday. For more information visit their event page on facebook at:  If hot guys (and girls) and free drinks are your thing, this is your party!  And think about finding a designated driver or using Uber!
