DBA Mixer at D.A.P.

On Monday, Aug 6, 2018 at 6:00 p.m., join the Desert Business Association to network at the longtime DBA Community Partner Desert AIDS Project. Come learn more about the services they provide to our communities, and their efforts in care, prevention, and advocacy. There will also be facility tours at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to learn more about how services are provided; AIDSWalk team kickoff as well! Outlandish, a live performance series that debuted in Palm Springs last year, returns to the Palm Springs Cultural Center this fall with an expanded lineup. Produced by Logo TV Founder Matt Farber and the Palm Springs Cultural Center, the series will feature six iconic acts known in the LGBT community and beyond, including: John Waters, Randy Rainbow, Miss Richfield 1981, Pam Ann, Bob The Drag Queen, and San Francisco's famed gay male revue, Baloney. The series begins with John Waters on Friday, October 26 and concludes with Baloney on Saturday, December 8. More info

Love and Bananas: An Elephant Love Story

On Wednesday, Aug 8 at 7:00 p.m., join the Palm Springs Cultural Center and Palm Springs Animal Shelter for a special join fundraiser screening of Love and Bananas: An Elephant Story. Ashley Bell and a team of elephant rescuers led by world renown Asian elephant conservationist Lek Chailert embark on a daring 48-hour mission across Thailand to rescue a 70-year-old captive blind Asian elephant and bring her to freedom. Coffee with a Cop

Meet members of the force in a relaxing atmosphere and discuss local issues, ask questions, and build relationships at the first Coffee with a Cop event in Palm Springs with the Palm Springs Police Department, on Tuesday, August 7 from 8:00–10:00 a.m. at Ristretto. This is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice. Free Workshop: Building Business Relationships

On Wednesday, August 8 from 8:45 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at the UC Riverside Palm Desert Campus, join the Desert Business Association in a free half-day workshop to learn more about Building Business Relationships – and managing those relationships for the benefit of your business. You will also learn about process for diverse businesses to register with the various certifying organizations. This workshop is sponsored by Southern California EDISON and the EDGE Program to help support and build small and diverse businesses. More info

Building a Better Retirement

Join the LGBT Community Center of the Desert for "Building a Better Retirement" on Thursday, August 9 at 6:00 p.m. In this free seminar, you'll discuss the challenges pre-retirees face when it comes to building their income for retirement and how New York Life and its affiliates can help meet those challenges. The Beales of Grey Gardens

On Saturday, August 11 at 6:00 p.m., The Filmmakers' Gallery at the Palm Springs Cultural Center will host a cocktail party, book signing, and screening of The Beales of Grey Gardens, followed by a conversation with Jerry Torre and Tony Maietta, authors of “The Marble Faun of Grey Gardens: A Memoir of the Beales, the Maysles." Albert Maysles and David Maysles took the unused footage from their 1975 documentary Grey Gardens and came up with a follow-up film, released in 2006. As with the first, we take a look at Big Edie and Little Edie, the relatives to Jackie Onassis who lived in an estate that was pretty much ran down and which they shared with a various of creatures including cats and raccoons. Jazz in the Pines This Weekend

The 25th annual Jazz in the Pines takes place this weekend August 10–12, featuring over two dozen bands. Performers and fans of jazz, blues, and R&B have a breathtaking mountain campus to themselves before the start of the next semester of the Foundation’s residential high school, Idyllwild Arts Academy. Though the Cranston fire came dangerously close to the campus, they did not sustain any burn damage and the show will go on, this year as a benefit for those affected by the fire. More info
