I hope everyone had a blast this weekend at HOT SAUCE, I know I had a great time. The bodies were bumpin’ and grindin’ and the bears were playing. With the expected warm weather, hibernation won’t be possible because this week we are gearing up for a lot of things to come.
One of the bigger events that we are very excited for is the 2015 Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards Gala. For those of you who do not know, since 1995 this Gala has raised millions of dollars for direct client services at the Desert AIDS Project here in the Coachella Valley. This year Joan Rivers will be the hot topic of the gala, most people know her for her witty comedy rather than the depth of her philanthropy. She hosted the gala in 2012 and for years has passionately supported a number of charities that benefit people living with HIV/AIDS. It was recently announced that as a sign of appreciation for her hard work and dedication, Joan Rivers will be honored at the gala. See our Videos section for a review of her charitable work.
Speaking of upcoming plans, we are exactly one month away from all The Dinah weekend activities and the Cathedral City LGBT days. Every year for the past 25 years, the city of Palm Springs has been home to the biggest all-girl event in the world. The Dinah Shore Weekend is a one-of-a-kind place where women of all ages, interests, ability relationship status, cultural background and profession come together for a long weekend getaway to meet and connect with other women, make new friends, reunite with old ones, and yes, find their dream girl. Although there might not be any men at the event, the Gay Desert Guru will be on the side rooting for the lovely ladies of The Dinah! GET IT GURLS! Don't get too crazy at Club Skirts!
Cathedral City LGBT days, will be happening the same weekend, it is not your typical Pride event, this event promises to be interactive, festive, and OUTrageous! It includes activities such as a bar hop of all the famous Cat City bars, a charity bed race, pool party at CCBC, an Easter egg hunt and much more. Gay Desert Guide is helping plan the events, so watch for details
Beside all that is being prepared in the upcoming weeks, I definitely recommend that you check out the Artwall project at Streetbar. The ARTWALL PROJECT has been introducing local artists since 2003 with the artists offering 20% of sales to the charity of their choosing. This week, Momi Rodrigues will have his paintings featured and there's a reception on Wednesday. There are also top shelf drink deals throughout the week, click here for more details.
Join one of our favorite drag queens, Jersey Shore, as she hosts ThrowBack Thursday. In her hysterical fashion, Jersey will host a cocktail hour / mixer in the UltraMAX Lobby from 6 pm to 7 pm and then an iconic movie at 7 pm with her hilarious commentary on the largest screen in the entire Coachella Valley. This week’s movie is Hairspray. She is also in the works of doing a movie night that is affiliated with LGBT days. Stay tuned for more details.
Before all these happening take place, I also encourage to get tested this week and attend the Get Tested Coachella Valley Annual Update so you can learn more about what is going on with HIV/AIDS and where we are going in 2015. Lets join together to help stop the spread of HIV!
